Cysts

Cysts are quite common and can become very painful, red, inflamed and can even rupture and drain.
Fortunately Dr. Barrios is equipped to treat them when Antibiotics therapy alone isn’t enough.

Treatment Options

A Cyst is usually noncancerous and is a closed capsule or sac-like structure filled with liquid or semisolid material. We recommend removing the capsule surgically so that it doesn’t fill back up again.

Removing the Cyst

Once a capsule has formed, it is very likely to continue to fill with contents. This is why excision, or removing the capsule, is recommended; to avoid recurrence. For smaller cysts they can be excised or removed in the office under local anesthesia. For larger cysts or those located in highly sensitive areas, an outpatient surgical setting may be recommended.

Recovery

The procedures are quick and your incision will be closed using stitches. The area my be sore for a few days and you will need to keep it covered with a bandage.

You’ll receive a follow up visit 1-2 weeks after the procedure to remove the stitches.
