Gall Bladder Disease
Women and men looking for relief from the nausea, bloating, heartburn, and other gallbladder related attacks can now find it with less scarring and faster recovery.
Treatment Options
When surgery is required to alleviate symptoms and prevent them from recurring a procedure called cholecystectomy, or gallbladder removal is performed. Dr. Barrios is proficient in performing this procedure laparoscopically and proudly offers Lafayette and the surrounding Acadiana region the opportunity for a minimally invasive approach. This is done by making 2-3 small ¼” incisions in the abdomen and one ½” incision at the umbilicus or belly button. Instruments are then inserted through these small cuts in order to remove the gallbladder in a minimally invasive way.
Scar Less and Recover Faster
By choosing minimally invasive surgery, you are choosing faster healing, lower risk of incisional hernia occurrence, less time in the hospital, less pain postoperatively, and a faster return to normal activities.
The 2-3 small incisions made doing this procedure laparoscopically create far less noticeable scarring than other treatment options. In comparison to open surgery, which leaves a sizeable scar, the small incisions are barely noticeable.
Recovery
Typically, people who undergo laparoscopic surgery are able to return home the same day and are back to most regular activities within 1-2 weeks. An open approach requires a much longer recovery time with the average patient returning to regular activities 6-8 weeks after surgery.
